Fall 2022 Class Descriptions
Advisory: The purpose of Advisory is to help students develop lifelong relationships with peers, adults, and Christ. Advisory groups will be split by the three age groups and will meet each class day following group prayer. Advisory activities will include team building, community service projects, goal setting, and mini apologetics trainings.
5 and under
Science A to Z: This class is designed to leverage the natural curiosity of young children, providing engaging opportunities to explore the wonders of STEM. This class will follow the letters of the alphabet while connecting lessons to STEM careers. Flat Playground 1: No Playground, no problem! In this class the parking lot will become the playground complete with different mazes, games, and challenges to help young children develop motor skills, learn kinesthetically, and have fun! Nursery will be provided during class times for children 2 years & under with music, story time, and developmentally appropriate activities. |
6 to 9
Flat Playground 2: No Playground, no problem - for bigger kids! Older kids will try their hand at more challenging games and activities, as well as a few recess classics. Students will have a blast while staying fit, collaborating, and improving their health. Blacktop Physics: The most important things every kid needs to know about physical science! Each class will explain essential concepts through a variety of hands-on experiments; make your own ice cream insulator, radiation relay, egg drop challenge, and more! Lesson extensions will be provided for students to do at home following each class for deeper understanding. A done for you physical science curriculum! |
10 and up
KPKL Talents: We all have things we love and are good at! Students will take turns leading each class to share their interest or talent and teach it to their peers in a hands-on way! Adult leaders will provide guidance as students develop leadership, communication, and planning skills - and have fun! Example: Love baseball? Share your accomplishments, then lead a game of whiffle ball! Career Bootcamp: In the first of this three-part series, students will articulate personal areas of interest, visually represent career goals, and define actionable steps to accomplish them. From there, students will identify underlying values, interests, and motivations using the 5 Why process and online career exploration tools. |
ALL AGES - CHOOSE ONE CLASS (11:30-12pm)
KPKL No Bake Cooking Class: A different treat each week! This Kids Plan Kids Lead class is open to students of all ages. Each week a group of students will plan and teach the class a mini lesson (with help from the KPKL leader) on a food topic of interest (recommended resource = Food Anatomy by Julia Rothman). Then they will lead us in making a related no-bake treat of their choosing! Students are responsible for bringing in any needed supplies and food materials needed to make their recipe on their class date.
Chess Club: If you love chess or have never played and want to learn, this is the club for you! Practice and play with friends of all ages and abilities - adults welcome too!
LEGO Challenge: Each week will feature a different LEGO Challenge - design a spy vehicle, make something to get you off a deserted island, and more! Can you solve the Challenge in 30 minutes?!
